Michael Winbush was a four year starter from 1980-1984 and served as a captain of the Rams football team in both his junior and senior years. Named rookie of the week a total of three times, Michael was a seven-time CIAA player of the week recipient. Named Most Valuable Player in the 1984 CIAA Championship Football game against Norfolk State University, he ranks fifth in all-time in passing in Ram history. For 12 years Michael served as an assistant football coach at WSSU. He also served as an assistant football coach at Norfolk State and at Virginia State Universities. From 1993-2000 Michael served as head women’s softball coach at WSSU and compiled a record of 191-65. His softball team won the CIAA Southern Division Championship and the CIAA Softball Championship with a record of 32-2. He also received the C.E. “Big House” Gaines award for Outstanding Coaching.
