Russell Eugene Murphy is honored as an outstanding football player.  He was captain of the 1954 football team at Winston-Salem Teachers College.  He was named Most Valuable Player in 1954.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.  He received a Master of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts Degree in Education Supervision and Safety from North Carolina A & T State University.   He served as an assistant football coach at Winston-Salem Teachers College.  He has also worked as a teacher and coach at Central High School and Asheboro Middle School in Asheboro, North Carolina.  He is a member of the Asheboro High School Hall of Fame.  He has received numerous awards for his outstanding leadership and development of young people throughout the state of North Carolina.  He currently resides in Asheboro, North Carolina.
