WSSU Rams Fall at Chowan, 7-5

MURFREESBORO, NC - WSSU dropped the first game of a doubleheader to Chowan, 7-5, Thursday at Chowan. The game was a makeup game of a contest postponed earlier in the season due to inclement weather.

WSSU scored first when Randy Norris hit a home run to lead off the afternoon.

Chowan answered with two runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead.

With the loss, the Rams fall to 29-15 overall and 12-1 in the CIAA, while Chowan improves to 23-21 overall and 11-3 in the CIAA.

The Rams picked up two run in the fifth, when Ivan Acuna doubled, scoring Brandon Ford, and Landon Steiner singled, scoring Acuna.

But the Chowan Hawks retook the lead with a double to left field, scoring one run in the sixth inning, and another in the seventh to take the game, 7-5.

Randy Norris went 2 for 3 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Brandon Ford and Ivan Acuna each went 2 for 4, with Ford also scoring a run and each picking up a run batted in. John Garcia went one for four with a run batted in. Emilio Abreu went one for four, and Tandal Ortiz and Michael McNamara each scored a run.

Will Beeson took the loss for WSSU, with Garrison Roy and Corbin Easter also pitching out of the bullpen.
