JAMESTOWN, NY – The Winston-Salem State University Rams delivered a big blow today to team in the Atlantic Regional, with a 5-3 win over PSAC Champ, Seton Hill, in the regional to keep their hopes and dreams alive.
The WSSU Rams got their bats going early today, with John Garcia doubling to right field in the first, followed by a single up the middle from Brandon Ford, scoring Garcia, to give the Rams a 1-0 lead after one inning.
The Rams would put up a crooked number in the second inning, as Emilio Abreu singled to center field, followed by a fielder's choicer bunt from Randal Ortiz. Landon Steiner then doubled and advanced to third on an error from the center fielder, scoring Ortiz to push the Rams to a 2-0 advantage. Michael McNamara then singled to right field, scoring Steiner. Randy Norris would then double to right center, allowing McNamara to come around to score.
Seton Hill would finally get on the scoreboard in the third, when Tyler Sullivan reached on a throwing error, allowing Austin Braendel to score.
Seton Hill answered with one in the fifth, to get closer to the Rams.
The Giffins put up another run in the sixth inning, when Mark Colella homered to left center to start the inning.
But like each threat presented before him, Jordan Carlton was able to work himself and the Rams out of trouble, and get back on solid ground.
Seton Hill would not threaten again, and the Rams went on tot put away the PSAC Champs, 5-3, eliminating the Griffins from the Atlantic Regional.
Randy Norris went one for four with one run driven in, while John Garcia finished two for four with a run scored. Brandon Ford went one for four with a run driven in. Emilio Abreu finished one for three and Randal Ortiz went one for four with two runs scored. Landon Steiner went two for four with a run scored and a run driven in, and Michael McNamara went one for two with a run scored and a run driven in, for the Rams.
Jordan Carlton got the win for WSSU throwing a complete game, allowing eight hits and three runs while striking out 11 Seton Hill batters.
WSSU Will take on the loser from today's Mercyhurst/Millersville game, as the Rams look to continue to survive and advance in the postseason tournament.
