WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (1-2) gave a solid effort, but the team could not pull off a late rally in a 10-4 loss to the Millersville Marauders (2-1), Saturday afternoon. The Rams gave a solid effort in the game, but the team could not get past the Marauders in the tough loss.
The Rams took the loss in spite of a solid overall effort. The Rams totaled six hits in the loss, but the team could not keep up with a Millersville team that scored 10 runs on 11 hits. WSSU junior center fielder Randy Norris finished the game, going two-for-four with a run scored. Senior Randal Ortiz added a double while senior John Garcia added a three-run home run.
For the third straight game, the Rams allowed the Marauders to jump ahead early. After allowing the Marauders to scored three first inning runs in the game, the Rams answered in the bottom of the first inning with Ortiz hit an RBI sacrifice fly that scored Norris. The Rams allowed a fourth inning run before a tough fifth inning that saw the team allow six runs to the Marauders to fall behind, 10-1. The Rams would begin a late rally with three sixth inning runs when Garcia hit a three-run home run. The effort was all the Rams could muster as the team fell, 10-4.
WSSU senior Seth Reeves (0-1) took the pitching loss, going 3.2 innings with four runs scored (four earned) on six hits. He also added three strikeouts. Four more Rams pitchers took the mound as well.
With the loss, the Rams fall to 1-2 overall this season. The Rams will return to action, Saturday when they host the Concord Mountain Lions in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
