Rams Take a 2-1 Win Over Indiana (Pa.)

ASHEBORO, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (11-6) got back to their winning ways when the team took a 2-1 win over the Indiana (Pa.) Crimson Hawks (2-4) at McCrary Park in Asheboro, N.C., Saturday afternoon. Offensively, both teams found some tough going as the Rams and the Crimson Hawks combined for just three runs.

As a team, the Rams totaled four hits in the game. Sophomore Joe Joplin led the way for the Rams with a one-for-two batting performance with a double and two RBI. Freshmen third base Nick Ward and Chris Shepherd both went one-for-three at the plate as well.

The Rams did all of their offensive damage in the second inning when Joplin hit a two-RBI double that scored Shepherd and Kendal Tucker. The Rams allowed a fourth inning run to the Crimson Hawks, but that was all that the team would allow as they held on for the win.

WSSU junior pitcher Cole Park (4-1) took the pitching win as he went all seven innings for the Rams and finished the game with one run allowed (one earned) on four hits and eight strikeouts.

With the win, the Rams ended a six-game losing streak and improved to 11-6 on the season. The two teams would go on to complete the double-header later in the day.
