VSU Trojans Defeat the WSSU Rams, 33-27 in Overtime

ETTRICK, VA – The excitement in Rogers Stadium was an experience to behold as the Virginia State University Trojans defeated the Rams of Winston-Salem State University on Saturday night, 33-27.

Winston-Salem State's Quincy Jackson found the endzone first, as he hauled in a 14 yard pass from Rod Tinsley, and with Daniel Rivera's PAT jumped out to a 7-0 advantage with just 2:15 to come off the clock.

Cordelral Cook to Quincy Watts from 18 yards out, and with Cesar Alfaro's PAT attempt coming up short, the WSSU Rams held on to a 7-6 lead,

VSU's Trenton Cannon scored from 11 yards out to give the Trojans a 12-7 lead. On their next possession, VSU hit the endzone again, this time from Cordelral Cook, as he would scramble 76 yards on three plays to make the score19-7.

With under 5:00 minutes left before the half, VSU was on the move again, when the quarterback would be hit and fumble the ball, that's when Tyrel Flemming would scoop up the ball and rumble 45 yards the opposite way, as the Rams would score and make it 19-14  at the half way point.

Coming out of the locker room at the half, the WSSU Rams looked to get back into the game, and quarterback Rod Tinsley would find Jaylan Barbour, open from 19 yards away as the Rams found their advantage, and would take the lead, 20-19.

As the fourth quarter made its appearance, WSSU quarterback, Rod Tinsley, would call his own number, as he would find the endzone from three yards out, to tie the game ay 27-27 with 50 second left to play.

Thomas Koufie would give the Trojans back the lead, as he would fake a toss and would scramble from 17 yards away to give the Trojans a 33-27 advantage. The Rams still felt as though they were right in the game, as the defense would come up  with the blocked kick on the PAT.

On their first play from scrimmage, the WSSU Rams would give the ball to their workhorse, Kerrion Moore, who would be hit and would fumble the ball, as VSU would jump on the loose ball to end the game at 33-27.

Farrell Muchison led the ground attack with eight carries fro 83 yards, while Kerrion Moore finished with 16 carries for 57 yards. Rod Tinsley, added 19 yards on just four carries.

Tinsley completed 13 of 33 passes with an interception, for 183 yards and two touchdowns.

Kerrion Moore finished with five catches for 59 yards, while Quincy Jackson added three catches for 34 yards and a score.

Daryus Skinner led the Rams defense with 10 tackles on the night, ande also finished wigth a tackle for a loss, while Kyrell Williamson added eight, and Miguel Quinn finished with six tackles.
