SALISBURY, NC – For the second time this week, the Winston-Salem State Rams (8-9, 7-4 CIAA) got a key Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division win when the team took a dominating 9-0 win at Livingstone (1-14, 1-13 CIAA), Thursday afternoon. The win marked the second in a row for the Rams and helps to secure the Rams' hold on second place in the division.
The Rams were able to get the match started before their first serve with some great doubles play. The Rams opened doubles play with a default win at #3 doubles, followed by a pair of 8-0 wins at #1 and #2 doubles.
With the momentum on their side, the Rams rolled through singles play for six wins to claim the victory. Once again, the team opened with a default win at #6 singles. From there, the Rams took 6-0, 6-0 wins at #2 and #3 singles by juniors Alexus Morgan and Aja Grant, respectively. Sophomore China Brown added a 6-1, 6-0 win at #4 singles while senior Gabrielle Lindsay wrapped up the win with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #1 singles.
With the win, the Rams improve to 8-9 overall and 7-4 in CIAA play. More importantly, the Rams claim a 5-2 lead in CIAA Southern Division play. The Rams won't have long to rest, as they will return to action for a 3:00 p.m. match against the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos, tomorrow afternoon at the WSSU Tennis Courts.
