RamsTake a 7-2 Loss to Johnson C. Smith

 

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (7-8, 6-4 CIAA) took a hard-fought 7-2 loss to the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls (13-9, 9-2 CIAA). The team made a great effort in one of their biggest matches of the season. However, the Rams could not quite pull out the win.

The Rams opened the match with a solid performance in doubles play. The duo of senior Aja Grant and sophomore Cylah Gaither took an  8-2 win at #3 doubles, but the team took 8-6 losses at #1 and #2 doubles.

Singles play belonged to the Golden Bulls as well, but the Rams were able to claim one of the singles wins. WSSU freshman Avion Harris claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win at #6 singles. However, the Rams took losses in all of the other singles matches to fall, 7-2.

With the loss, the Rams fall to 7-8 overall and 6-4 in CIAA play. The Rams will return to action, Thursday when the team heads to nearby Salisbury, N.C. to take on the Livingstone Blue Bears.
