LINCOLN, PA – The Winston-Salem State Rams (2-9, 1-0 CIAA) opened Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play in a big way when the team took a dominating three-set win over the Lincoln (Pa.) (0-3, 0-1 CIAA). The Rams needed just over an hour to pick up their first CIAA win of the season when the defeated the Lions, 25-6, 25-9, 25-18.
The Rams took the win behind one of their best defensive performances of the season. The Rams allowed just 33 points on 14 kills to the Lady Lions and forced 19 attack errors by the Lady Lions. Offensively, the Rams had a great day of their own with 31 kills in the match. WSSU sophomore middle hitter Alexis Gregson-Hammond led the way with eight kills while freshman Alexis Bynum scored five kills.
The opening set was a dominating one by the Rams who allowed back-to-back points to the Lady Lions just once and at one time, rattled off an 8-1 run. The second set was just as dominant as the Rams once again controlled the set from beginning to end. This time, the team allowed back-to-back scores twice en route to once again claiming a dominating set victory.
The third set was the most challenging one, but the Rams once again rolled on their way to the victory. After playing to a 9-8 lead, the Rams went on a 10-1 run to go ahead 19-10. From there, the Rams cruised to their first CIAA victory of the season.
