Enshrined into the WSSU C.E. “Big House” Gaines Athletic Hall of Fame for coaching, Melvin J. Fair led the history-making WSSU wrestling team to several CIAA Championships and a national ranking.  A four-time CIAA Coach of the Year honoree (1987, 1988, 1989 and 1990) he led the Rams to three consecutive CIAA Wrestling Championships from 1988-90 en route to a ranking as high as 15th nationally.  A two-time Mid-South Wrestling Association Coach of the Year award winner in 1989 and 1990 Fair earned a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education from North Carolina A&T State University and served as a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
