CHARLOTTE, NC - When the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) held its annual spring meeting, there was plenty of big news for the Winston-Salem State University Rams. In addition to addressing return to play/socialization and a recap of the strategic plan benchmarks, the CIAA announced its annual end of the year awards.
One of the key announcements was the fact the Winston-Salem State University Director of Athletics Etienne Thomas was named First Vice President of the CIAA Management Council. She will begin the role on July 1, 2021.
The appointment was not the only news for the Rams. Winston-Salem State University took home the Viral Sports Moment for being featured on ESPN's First Take. Portions of the show were broadcast live from the Clarence E. Gaines Center on the campus of Winston-Salem State University. The effort included performances by the Red Sea of Sound Marching Band, the Powerhouse of Red & White Cheerleaders, and an opening to the show from the Winston-Salem State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The show also included a surprise appearance from former WSSU professor Marilyn Roseboro.
The CIAA annual spring meeting wraps up the 2020-21 athletic year and sets the stage for the entire conference to move forward into the 2021-22 year.
