Rams Hold Off Saint Rose for 13-9 Win Over Golden Knights


WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (13-6) had an offensive explosion, but needed a defensive effort to take a 13-9 win over the Saint Rose Golden Knights (5-5), Wednesday evening. The Rams took the win behind a great overall effort, scoring 13 runs in the game, but also needing a defensive effort to hold off a late rally by the Golden Knights to take the win.

As a team, the Rams had a terrific offensive effort in the game. The team totaled 13 hits in the game. Senior outfielder Brandon Ford led the way for the Rams with a two-for-three batting effort with a home run, a double, two runs scored, and four RBI in the game. Junior centerfielder Randy Norris added a three-for-five effort with three runs scored while senior designated hitter John Garcia added a three-for-four batting effort with two runs scored.

The Rams took control of the game early with a scorching hot batting performance. The team opened the game with four first inning runs. The team added a second inning run and two third inning runs before the team broke things open with three fourth inning runs. It was in the fifth inning when Ford hit a two-run home run to go ahead 11-0.

It was then that the Golden Knights struck back with seven sixth inning runs. The Rams broke the streak with a sixth inning run before the Golden Knights added two seventh inning runs. It was then that the Rams' defense took control, holding their opponents to the nine runs.

WSSU junior Josh Larson (3-1) took the pitching win. He went four innings for the Rams with no runs allowed on just three hits with two strikeouts.
