Rams Stay Hot with 10-4 Win Over Jefferson


WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (16-7) kept up their offensive ways when the team took a 10-4 win over the Jefferson Rams (3-11), Wednesday afternoon. After totaling 19 runs in Tuesday's win, the Rams had another high-scoring effort with 10 runs in Wednesday's victory.

The Rams had another strong offensive showing, Wednesday. AS a team, the Rams totaled 12 hits in the win and turned them into 10 runs. WSSU sophomore catcher Cole Parks led the way for the Rams with a three-for-five batting effort with three RBI and two runs scored. Senior left fielder John Garcia added a three-for-five batting effort with two runs scored and two RBI as well. Junior second base Nick Williams went three-for-four with three runs scored and an RBI.

In the early going, it was Jefferson who took the early lead, but the Rams broke out late to take control of the game and never looked back. The Rams allowed a pair of first inning runs and a second inning run to Jefferson to fall behind, 0-3. Ford would tie the game in one swing of the bat when he hit a third inning three-run home run. The Rams took their first lead of the game when senior third base Emilio Abreu scored on a Jefferson throwing error that left the team on top, 4-3. The Rams took advantage of another Jefferson miscue when Ford scored on a fifth inning passed ball. The Rams added two more seventh inning runs as Ford forced a fielding error on a bunt that scored Garcia. Guzman would add a two-RBI single to left field to leave the Rams on top, 8-3. The Rams completed their scoring in the eighth inning when the Rams when Ford hit an RBI triple which was followed by an RBI single from Norris. The Rams allowed one more run to Jefferson to finish the game with a 10-4 victory.

WSSU junior Ryan Beck (1-0) took the pitching victory in the game. Junior Rashad Stewart got the start and went four innings. He finished the game with three runs allowed, three earned on four hits with two strikeouts. Beck pitched two innings and finished the game with no runs allowed on one hit with a strikeout.

With the win, the Rams improve to 16-7. The team will return to action, Friday, when the team hosts the UNC Pembroke Braves in a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader.
