Rams Take a 16-1 Loss to Seton Hill
WINSTON-SALEM, NC- The Winston-Salem State Rams (10-2) did what they could, but the team could not find any answers in a 16-1 loss to the Seton Hill Griffins (2-1), Monday afternoon. The Rams had their struggles both in the field and at the plate in the tough loss.
As a team, the Rams found hits hard to come by in the loss. The Rams totaled just three hits in the game while allowing nine hits to the Griffins and 15 walks. WSSU junior designated hitter Cole Parks was the only Ram with multiple hits in the game as he went two-for-three at the plate with a run scored. Freshman third base Nick Ward added a one-for-three effort with an RBI.
The Rams' sole score of the game came in the fifth inning when Ward hit an RBI single to score Parks. The Rams gave up two runs each in the first, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings before allowing eight eighth inning runs.
WSSU sophomore Tyrese Hearst (0-1) took the pitching loss as he started the game and went 4.2 innings. He allowed six runs (two earned) to the Griffins and finished with a strikeout. Redshirt-sophomore Eli Boles had the only other multiple inning action with 2.1 innings. He finished with two runs allowed (one earned) with two strikeouts.
With the loss, the Rams fall to 10-2 to start the season. The team will return to action this weekend when they host the Bloomsburg Huskies, Saturday afternoon. For more information on Rams baseball, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2143 or log on to www.WSSURams.com.
