Rams Take a 4-3 Walk Off Win Over Lock Haven

ASHEBORO, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (15-7) staged a late rally to claim a 4-3 win over the Lock Haven Bald Eagles (4-5-1), Saturday afternoon. WSSU sophomore right fielder Luke Spiva drew a base-loaded base-on-balls in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the literal walk-off victory.

The Rams took the win behind an efficient effort as they needed just four hits to claim the win. Spiva led the way for the Rams when he went one-for-two at the plate with a double and two RBI. Sophomore centerfielder E.P. Reese added a two-for-three batting effort with a home run, a triple, and two runs scored. Freshman Hunter Phillips hit a home run of his own.

In the early going, it was the Bald Eagles who took control of the game, but the Rams rallied late to claim the victory. The Rams allowed a pair of first inning games before allowing another third inning run. Winston-Salem State began their way back in the fourth inning when Phillips hit a solo home run. Reese added a solo home run of his own in the fifth inning to cut the WSSU deficit down to on run, 3-2. The Rams tied the game when Spiva hit an RBI double to tie the game. It was in the bottom of the seventh inning when Spiva finally sealed the game when he drew a base-loaded RBI walk to claim the win.

WSSU junior Cole Parks (6-1) took the pitching victory. He started the game and went all seven innings. He allowed three runs (three earned) with nine strikeouts.

The Rams would go on to complete the doubleheader later in the game. For more information on Rams baseball, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2143 or log on to
