CHARLOTTE, NC – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced its men's and women's basketball schedule for the 2020-21 regular season, Wednesday morning. The Rams men's and women's basketball teams will each play a 16-game conference schedule, including 10 divisional games and six cross-divisional games.
The conference teams will utilize a doubleheader formant for cross-divisional play before moving to a split schedule in divisional play, beginning on January 28th. The decision was made to ensure the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
After one of the best seasons in recent history both the Rams men's and women's basketball teams will face a slate of seven home games and nine road games. The schedule will feature several key match ups for the Rams. Both teams will open CIAA play on the road when they head to Richmond, Virginia to take on the Virginia Union Panthers. The Rams women's basketball team will have a familiar face on the opposing sideline with WSSU alum Tierra Terry making her head coaching debut when she leads the Panthers against her alma mater. The two teams will open CIAA Southern Division play on January 30th when the Rams take on the Claflin Panthers. The defending champion Rams men's basketball team will head to Fayetteville, N.C. to take on the Fayetteville State Broncos in a rematch of the 2020 CIAA Men's Basketball Championship game when the Rams took a thrilling 63-62 win over the Broncos.
The CIAA and its membership will continue to monitor the COVID-19 landscape, while following federal, state, local, NCAA, and campus guidelines, and make in-season updates to the schedule and game environment protocols as needed. Currently, there will be no fans allowed at games in the C.E. Gaines Center.
