CHARLOTTE, NC - After making some incredible contributions both on and off the basketball court, the duo of senior guards Melody Prichard and Justin Ross both earned and incredible honor, Tuesday afternoon. The two student-athletes were named honorees for the Church Mutual 'Protecting the Greater Good' general scholarship contribution. Church Mutual Insurance Company announced the presentation of the second annual "Church Mutual Protecting the Greater Good Award" general scholarship contribution, Tuesday afternoon. A $1,000 contribution is awarded in the name of one male and one female student-athlete participating in the CIAA tournament for each of the 12 CIAA member institutions.
The scholarships are based on the student-athletes' demonstrated positive impact on their school, students, or community. The scholarships, will be disbursed to the general scholarship fund in the names of the selected student-athletes, can be awarded at the discretion of the institution to any deserving CIAA member student.
Melody Prichard earned the honor for her stellar contributions in the university community and the classroom. A senior majoring in business administration, she has been the part of several community service initiatives in addition to being a leading member of the Rams women's basketball team. She is an efficient, reliable, and detail-oriented leader on the team that provided a strong offensive punch when she took the court. In addition to her contributions on the court, she also volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House and the Salvation Army on numerous occasions.
Justin Ross earned the honor for his great career with the Rams as well as his contributions to the local community. Ross has been a model student-athlete and he is always willing provide leadership, advice, and assistance at every turn. These efforts earned him the Most Outstanding Teammate Award. In addition to his role as a team member, he has been a star on the court as well. He earned the Athletic Director's Cup for the highest student-athlete grade-point average (GPA) for two years in a row. His contributions to the community are numerous and he regularly passed on his knowledge by volunteering at local schools.
