Rams Win Third In A Row

Redshirt freshman Isaac Parson hit a three-point shot with five seconds to play, lifting the WSSU men's basketball team to a 56-54 road win at Elizabeth City State.  The Rams improved to 3-2 in CIAA play and 9-4 overall, winning their third game in five days.

Cameron Campbell's two free throws with 1:14 to play gave WSSU a 53-52 lead.  The Vikings went ahead 54-53 on a fast break layup before senior Xavier Fennell fed Parson for the game-winner.

Surprisingly, the game was only tied three times and featured only three lead changes.  The Rams largest advantage was six points with 7:30 remaining in the game.  ECSU led by 13 with 13:11 to go in the first half before 'SU mounted a rally to tie the game 29-29 at the half.

Three-pointers by Campbell and Samage Teel and four straight free throws by Parson fueled the Rams rally.  WSSU outscored the Vikings 8-0 in the final 2:34 of the half.

Campbell led the Rams with 17 points and collected nine rebounds, while Teel tossed in 14 and Parson added 13.  Jonathan Hicklin was WSSU's leading rebounder with 10. The Rams had 18 offensive rebounds which led to an 18-10 scoring advantage over the Vikings.

Teel, last week's CIAA Rookie of the Week, was 6-13 from the floor.  Parson was 7-10 at the free throw line.  It was the third consecutive game the trio of Campbell, Parson and Teel have scored in double figures.

The Rams return to CIAA action Saturday with a 4 p.m. game at St. Augustine's.
