Rams Picked to Finish Second in CIAA South; Sixth Overall in Preseason Predictions

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams will have to look to prove the predictions wrong as the team was predicted to finish second in their division and sixth overall in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Preseason Predicted Order of Finish. There is some good news for the Rams as senior free safety Daryus Skinner was a selection for the 2019 CIAA Pre-Season All-CIAA team.

The prediction came after the Rams went 5-4 last season and 4-2 in CIAA play. The team finished last season ranked with a 3-1 record in the CIAA Southern Division. The Rams' sole division loss came against Shaw, which was ranked second by virtue of a tiebreaker with the WSSU head-to-head loss. This season, the Rams will return with five offensive starters as well as five defensive starters from last season's team.

Winston-Salem State senior free safety Daryus Skinner was the sole Ram named to the 2019 CIAA Pre-Season All-Conference team. He took home the honor after earning several last season, including being named the 2018 CIAA Defensive Player of the Year along with earning a first team All-CIAA spot as well.

The Rams will open the 2019 football season when the team heads to Pembroke, N.C. to take on the UNC Pembroke Braves, Thursday, September 5th at 7:00 p.m. The Rams will return to campus in early August.
