WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Rams football program is continuing to make waves with the addition of a pair of wide receivers that will look to take the Rams offense into a higher gear this fall. The duo will bring a combination of quality experience, maturity and world-class speed to join an already great looking class of signees for the upcoming season.
The Rams will welcome the duo of graduate Alex Cabrera from Eastern Kentucky and Terrance Horne, Jr. from the University of South Florida. Both players will bring quality experience and will give the team some great options to make plays down the field.
Cabrera will join the Rams as a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University where he played three full seasons with the Colonels. He is a 6'1", 176 lbs. wide receiver who played in 25 games for the Colonels and totaled 26 receptions for 246 yards and three touchdowns. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in the fall of 2020. He is also a graduate of Viera High School in Melbourne, Florida where he totaled 1,200 receiving yards as a senior and helped to lead his team to a district title and a spot in the state finals in 2015. As a junior, he also passed for 570 yards and rushed for 1,410 yards.
Also joining the Rams will be Terrance Horne, Jr., an explosive wide receiver from the University of South Florida. He joins the Rams after playing two seasons with the Bulls where he played in 20 total games. He caught 15 passes for 90 yards and three touchdowns. It was on special teams where he really made his mark as he totaled 418 yards and two touchdowns in kick returns. He really made a name for himself against the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets when he totaled 254 yards in returns, including a highlight reel 98-yard touchdown return. He is a graduate of Miramar High School where he had a spectacular high school on the track as well as on the football field. He capped his high school career as the state champion in the boys 100m dash with a 10.48. He was also the district and region champion in the event as well. He earned All-Broward track & field honors in the 100m, 200m, the 4x100m relay, and in the 4x400m relay. It was in his junior season when he put the state on notice after recording a 10.29 in the 100m dash. On the football field, he earned a three-star rating as a recruit and he was a second team selection for the Class 8A All-State Team.
The two student-athletes will be a welcome sight for the Rams as the team will look to replace it's top five receivers from the 2019 team. Combined, the Rams will need to replace 105 receptions for 1,221 yards. However, Cabrera and Horne, Jr. will join Anthony Berry (Saint Augustine's University), Antjuan Collins (Rocky River High), Anthony Davis Ingram (Mallard Creek High), and Nate Strother (Presbyterian College) to form a strong class of receivers for the Rams this season.
