Lady Rams Take Tough 6-5 Eight-inning Loss to East Stroudsburg

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (7-8) gave it their all, but the team fell just short in a hard-fought 6-5 eight-inning loss to the East Stroudsburg Warriors (4-10), Thursday afternoon. The loss came after the team gave a strong effort on both sides of the ball, notching nine hits in the game.

The Lady Rams had a great offensive effort, scoring runs in four of the eight innings played, including a pair in the third inning. After falling behind, 3-1 in the third inning, the Lady Rams scored a pair of runs to tie the gme and scored a run in both the fourth and fifth innings respectively to go ahead 5-3. However, the WSSU offense was held scoreless for the remainder of the game while East Stroudsburg scored a run in each of the next three innings, including scoring an eighth inning run that sealed the WSSU loss.

As a team, the Lady Rams totaled nine hits in the game and managed five runs. Junior shortstop Monet Daly led the way for the team with a three-for-three effort at the plate with a triple and a pair of walks, two runs scored, and an RBI. Junior centerfielder Kiah Ruffin added a two-for-five effort with a run scored and an RBI while freshman Chyna Riley added a two-for-three effort at the plate with a run scored and an RBI.

With the loss, the Lady Rams fall to 7-8 overall. The team will return to action this weekend when they head to Raleigh, N.C. to take part in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Round-Up.
