CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (3-5, 3-2 CIAA) earned its third Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) win, Sunday morning when the team took a 7-0 win over the Virginia Union Panthers. The win was a big one for the Rams who are looking to move up the ranks in the conference standings.
The Rams opened the match by taking all three doubles wins. The Rams opened the day with an 8-0 win at #3 doubles from freshman Kyra Akande and sophomore Cylah Gaither. The Rams followed the win with an 8-1 win at #2 doubles. It was the duo of sophomore Tay'lor Champion and sophomore Avion Harris who pulled off the win. The doubles play was ended when the duo or senior China Brown and freshman Kyrsten Jenelle who claimed a 5-1 win at #1 doubles.
From there, the Rams went on to claim four singles wins in the match. Jenelle opened things up with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #5 singles before Harris added a 6-1, 6-0 win at #3 singles. Champion added a 6-0, 6-3 win at #2 singles before Akande wrapped things up with a 6-2, 6-2 win at #4 singles.
