Rams Top Fayetteville State, 6-3, for Third Straight Win


FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (5-5, 5-2 CIAA) goat a key Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division win when the team took a 6-3 road win over the Fayetteville State Broncos (4-5, 3-3 CIAA), Thursday afternoon. The Rams stayed hot to claim their third straight victory. 

The Rams opened the day on a high note when the team took two out of three doubles matches. Senior China Brown and freshman Kyrsten Jennelle took a 6-4 win at #1 doubles while sophomores Tay'lor Champion and Avion Harris took a 6-4 win at #2 doubles.

From there, the Rams continued to roll in singles play. Champion was victorious once again with a 6-4, 6-1 win at #1 singles while Harris added a 6-3, 6-0 win at #3 singles. Freshman Kyra Akande took a 6-2, 6-1 win at #4 singles before fellow freshman Jennelle added a 6-0, 6-0 win at #5 singles.

With the win, the Rams improve to 5-5 overall and 5-2 in CIAA play. The team also improves to 2-2 in CIAA Southern Division play. The Rams will return to action, Saturday when the team hosts the Averett Cougars at the WSSU Tennis Courts in a 1:00 p.m. match.
