Covington Places 3rd in 60m Dash Prelims at 2015 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championship Meet

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams saved some of their best performances for the biggest stage with some great performances on the opening day of the 2015 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championship Meet.

Junior sprinter Raven Covington started things off with a bang when she placed third in the preliminary round of the women's 60m dash. She ran a personal best 7.41 in the event to place third and qualified for the event finals. With the effort, she eclipsed last season's effort when she didn't reach the event finals. Senior sprinter Nya Michaux also had a strong effort when she placed 11th in the women's 200m dash. She ran a 24.63 in the event to earn the 11th place. Though she will not advance to the event finals, she also ran a personal best and far exceeded expectations as she was ranked 16th among qualifiers heading into the event. Rounding out the WSSU efforts on the track was freshman distance runner Domtilla Kiplaget, who placed 18th in the women's 5000m run. She ran a 17:48.51 in the event.

In field events, WSSU senior long jumper Tajanel McNeill placed 17th in the women's long jump. She recorded an 18'2.5" (5.55m) leap to earn the finish.

The Lady Rams will return to action tomorrow when McNeill returns to compete in the women's triple jump while Covington will compete in the finals of the women's 60m dash.
