Rams Place Third at 2016 CIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams finished third at the 2016 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Saturday. The Rams took third place with 138.50 points behind the top-ranked Saint Augustine's Falcons (156) and the third-ranked host Johnson C. Smith Lady Golden Bulls (165).

After taking a first day lead with 43 points, the Rams totaled 95.5 points on the second day to earn the third place finish. WSSU junior Fawzia Kheir led the way for the Rams when she won the women's 3000m run with a 10:42.35 while sophomore Domtilla Kiplagat placed second in the event with a 10:48.21. Kheir also finished second in the women's 1500m run when she ran a 4:41.21. She also finished third in the women's 800m run where she ran a 2:11.74, an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time. Junior Tametris Morrison placed second in the women's 400m hurdles with a 1:00.59.

WSSU senior Rikera Waters added the top field events performance for the Rams with a third place finish in the women's discus throw with a 119'3" (36.34m).

The effort completes the conference portion of the season for the Rams and the team will turn its focus towards the national stages. Up next for the Rams will be the prestigious 119th running of The Penn Relays.
