BRADENTON, FL – The Winston-Salem State Rams track & field team will look for a strong finish to the season when members compete in the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championship Meet this week at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. The Rams will send a pair of individuals and one relay team to the biggest stage to compete for national championships this week.
The Winston-Salem State 4x100m relay team will kick things off for the Rams when they take the track, Thursday afternoon. The quartet of freshman Cierra Thompson, junior Rachel Bonham, freshman Ma'Kyia Gayden, and freshman Kayla Foy will enter the women's 4x100m relay as the eighth ranked team in the event after running a 45.82 at the Aggie Last Chance meet last weekend.
Individually, the Rams will send the duo of senior Ty-Leah Hampton and freshman Kayla Foy will compete at the meet. Hampton and Foy will both compete in the women's 100m dash. Hampton earned a spot in the national meet after ranking 11th in the event with an 11.65 at the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championship Meet while Foy is ranked 14th with an 11.69w at the Aggie Last Chance Meet. Hampton's work won't be done as she will compete in the women's 200m dash where she is tied for fourth nationally with a 23.70 which she ran at the 2017 CIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championship is set to begin on Thursday, May 25th at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. The women's 4x100m relay is set for a 5:35 p.m. start while the women's 100m preliminary is set for a 6:55 p.m. start. The preliminary round of the women's 200m dash is set for a 5:35 p.m. start, Thursday afternoon. Live video for the entire meet will be available on www.NCAA.com/video/championship.
