NEW ORLEANS, LA – Winston-Salem State University senior sprinter Cierra Thompson was named an NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field All-American, Tuesday afternoon. The announcement was made by the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), Tuesday evening.
Due to the cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, the criteria for selection as an All-American was changed to include all student-athletes listed on the start lists for the anticipated event. There is also no distinction of first or second team selection.
Thompson earned her selection to the 2020 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championship Meet after running a season-best 7.54 in the women's 60m dash at the Clemson Opener in December. The time was the best in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region and also earned all-region honors for the senior. The honor marked the second All-American honor for Thompson as she also earned All-American honors during the 2017 outdoor track & field season when she was a member of a Rams 4x100m relay team that finished fifth at the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championship Meet.
The honor comes in addition to another for Thompson, as she was a member of the 2020 graduating class of Winston-Salem State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management.
