Rams Show Steady Improvement at 2021 VertKlasse Meeting

HIGH POINT, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Rams track & field team closed out the 2021 VertKlasse Meeting with some great performances, Friday. The team showed a lot of steady progress early in the season with some strong showings in every facet of competition at the meet.

Though the team had several great performances all around, it was in the field events where the Rams really stood out. WSSU sophomore Kennedy Alexander got the second day of the meet started in style when she won the women's high jump. She recorded a 1.63m jump to claim the top spot. The effort marked the second straight week where she stood as the top high jumper. Freshman Tionna Wilson had a great day of her own with a sixth place finish in the women's triple jump. She had an 11.03m jump to earn the finish. The Rams also saw some great performances in their throws events as well. Freshman Asia Lampe had a great day as well with a 14th place finish in the women's shot put. She recorded a 10.85m throw for the finish. Senior Ashley Taylor placed 17th with a 10.64m throw of her own. The Rams throwers also had a great day in the women's discus with sophomore Alyssa Farmer placing 11th in the event. She recorded a 37.80m throw in the event.

On the track, the Rams also saw some steady improvement with some great performances. After a great showing in the triple jump, Wilson carried her efforts onto the track when she placed 30th in the women's 100m dash. She had a 13.22 to lead the way for the Rams. Fellow freshman Nyaka Ebron placed 32nd with a 13.26. In the women's 200m dash, Ebron placed 44th to lead the way for the Rams. She ran a 28.11. Sophomore Kylia Byers added a 49th place finish when she ran a 29.63.
