RALEIGH, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (3-5, 1-1 CIAA) picked up their first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) win of the season in style when the team took a three-set win over the Saint Augustine's Falcons (0-3, 0-3 CIAA), Monday evening.
The Rams put on a dominant performance to claim the win as it took just an hour and seventeen minutes for the team to claim the victory. As a team, the Rams totaled 45 kills with just eight errors in the match. WSSU senior outside hitter Ytae Cobb led the way for the Rams with 13 kills and no errors in the match. Freshman outside hitter Sanaa Lanier added nine kills as well.
The first set of the match was the most dominant for the team. The Rams set the tone for the match with a 25-7 win in the opening set. After opening the set with a 15-2 start, the Rams never looked back to claim the set win. The second set was a bit more competitive, but the Rams never let up as they rolled to a 25-12 win in the set. The team opened the set with an 8-6 lead before rattling off 11 unanswered points and took a 17-6 lead. From there, the Rams allowed six more points to the Falcons, but the team would not let their lead slip away as they pulled out the win. In the final set, the Rams closed the match with a 25-17 win. The two teams played to a 10-10 tie before the Rams took control of the match and outscored their opponents, 15-7 to take the win.
With the win, the Rams improve to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in CIAA play. The team will return to action, tomorrow when they head to Bluefield, West Virginia to take on the Bluefield State Blues.
