Rams Volleyball Picked to Finish Third in CIAA Preseason Poll; Wilson, McInIntyre Named to Preseason All-CIAA Team
CHARLOTTE, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Rams volleyball team was picked to finish third in the 2021 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Preseason Predicted Order of Finish, Wednesday morning. Though the ranking will give the team a high expectation to live up to, the Rams will keep their aim a bit higher heading into the season. The announcement came in addition to the announcement of a pair of Rams earning spots on the 2021 CIAA Preseason All-Conference Team.
Leading the way for the Rams will be the duo of senior setter Rylee Wilson and sophomore middle blocker Niyonna McIntyre, who were both named to the 2021 CIAA Preseason All-Conference Team. Wilson took home the honor after earning All-CIAA honors during the 2019 season. She finished the season with 752 assists, 40 total blocks (six solo), and 21 service aces during the season. She finished the season ranked second in the conference in assists. The honor marks a first for McIntyre who finished the 2019 season with 77 total blocks (22 solo) to lead the CIAA.
As a team, the Rams finished the 2019 season with a 17-10 overall record and a 13-4 record in CIAA play. The effort left the Rams in third place in the CIAA Southern Division behind Fayetteville State and Shaw, the two teams that are currently ahead of the Rams in the CIAA preseason poll. The Rams finished the season in the semifinal round of the 2019 CIAA Volleyball Championship Tournament.
