Rams Sweep JCSU

The WSSU Volleyball team swept its regular season matchups with Johnson C. Smith, winning the second match in a 3-2 thriller in Charlotte.  The Rams had previously blanked the Golden Bulls 3-0 in Winston-Salem on October 7.

'SU extended its win streak to five straight dating back to October 29, 2018.  Since September 23, 2010, WSSU has an astonishing 21-1 record against JCSU.

Coach Chanel Davis' Rams won the first set 25-17, but Smith rebounded to claim set two, 25-20.  WSSU dominated set three, winning 25-8.  The see-saw continued with the Golden Bulls taking the fourth set, 25-19.  'SU rose to the challenge and ended the match with a 15-12 victory in set five.

Charlotte freshman Raven Gray led the Rams with 16 kills.  Sophomore Sanaa Lanier added 14.

Freshman Angel Bowden, freshman Jireh Pinkney, also from Charlotte, and senior Rylee Wilson each had three aces.

Sophomore Niyonna McIntyre accumulated 28 assists and Bowden had 17 for WSSU.  Junior Myra Wallace paced the Rams with 21 digs, freshman Kyann Crocker added 14 and Wilson contributed 13.

WSSU improved its CIAA record to 7-6, 4-3 in Southern Division play and 9-13 overall.  The Rams are on the road for Southern Division matchups at Livingstone on November 1 and Claflin on November 4.

'SU's final home matches of the regular season are November 6 against nonconference foe Concord and a huge Southern Division match against Fayetteville State on Monday, November 8.
